July Lamb Farm Spotlight: NC State University

The North Carolina State University Small Ruminant Educational Unit serves the three pillars of the land grant mission, teaching, research, and extension. Courses in both the undergraduate as well as Agricultural Institute programs utilize the unit for hands-on instruction. Additionally, the unit is utilized for applied research and extension programs to serve the needs of producers in North Carolina and across the southeast region. Nicolette Wolf manages the unit and Dr. Andrew Weaver is the faculty liaison. The purebred Dorset and Katahdin flocks are enrolled in the National Sheep Improvement Program and seedstock is marketed through various sales throughout the year. The unit also raises blackface crossbred ewes to meet the research needs of faculty in the Department of Animal Science.
