Each month on the first and fifteenth, we will spotlight our members in a new series. We want to promote you, our members, to showcase the work you put into raising sheep. If you are interested in having your farm spotlighted, email Education Committee Chair: Amy Kidd at followyourarrowfarm@gmail.com
The first of each month will spotlight a member farm that primarily markets their lamb products and the fifteenth of the month will spotlight a member farm that primarily markets their fiber products. We look forward to promoting our members and hope you enjoy this new series.
January Lamb Spotlight: South Mountain Sheep and Lamb
Andrew and Lori Finch have been farming since 2004. South Mountain Sheep & Lamb is nestled in the foothills of the Southern Appalachian Mountains in Vale, NC. Andrew has served as president of the NCSPA and Lori has been active in 4H clubs and helping new sheep producers.
They raise Katadhin Hair sheep which is a heavy, medium-sized breed. They choose this breed for its adaptability to the climate in NC, ease of lambing, and excellent maternal instinct. Lambs mature quickly to ideal market weight with a very mild flavor.
South Mountain Sheep & Lamb sells their meat retail in Huntersville and through their website driven by Barn 2 Door. You can visit their website at southmountainlamb.com
