Tensorflow, Keras: Proper way to train a neural network

I’m working on a Tensorflow and Keras project to predict time series of the form [time series of values] -> [time series of predicted values].
For this I’m using a neural network as an estimator, which is an encoder-decoder that takes a time series and predicts a new time series.
So far, I’m implementing this as a trainer.
I’m looking for a good way to define the objectives.
I’m thinking that maybe I should train the estimator on each new example as:
(X – X_pred)^2 + (Y – Y_pred)^2

With X = series of real values, Y = series of predicted values, X_pred = real values predicted, and Y_pred = predicted values.
Is there a better way to define the objective function?


I think your idea is great, but I think it will be hard to train the network, since the networks are heavily dependent on the objective function. If you do not provide any objective function to the network, it will never learn anything.
What I would suggest is to use the following objective function:
loss = loss_function(Y, Y_pred) + loss_function(X, X_pred)

Y is the ground truth, so it is of no importance if we are losing it.
X is of the same type as Y and Y_pred, so it
