Police Shoot, Kill Chicago Teen
CHICAGO – A 15-year-old black teenager was shot and killed by a police officer Saturday in the South Side Rogers Park neighborhood. The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. at the corner of Lunt Avenue and Austin Boulevard, police said.
Witnesses told WLS-TV that the shooting occurred after a teenage girl was assaulted. The teen who was shot was shot in the back and died at Stroger Hospital, the TV station reported. A handgun was found in the girl’s purse, and police said the incident was not an attempted murder.
A 12-year-old girl who witnessed the incident told police she saw a man “shooting into the ground” in the street. Police said they have video of the shooting from two different angles.
The police officer involved has been placed on standard administrative duty while the incident is under investigation, police said.
The shooting came after a weekend of violence in Chicago, including a double homicide on the South Side. On Friday, a man and woman were shot to death in a drive-by shooting near 19th and Hermitage Avenue in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.
